Raising Standard Poodles in Minnesota
My wife did some research before getting another dog and now we have a twoStandard Poodles here in Minnesota. We had a Black Lab, and a Shar Pei Lab mix prior to getting our Poodles. Both of them where very smart dogs. But the fur bothered us. My wife told me that Poodles don't shed and that sold me.
We found our first Standard Poodle in another state and drove half way to purchase him. Then my wife said he needs a companion and along came the second Standard Poodle six months later. Over the years I learned that Standard Poodles are very intelligence, and easy to train. One is a very good watchdog the other one is laid back and really does not care who is at the door. They both love attention just like all dogs.
Both of our Poodles are males. Oz is black and Casper is cream. Oz has all the energy. As I am writing this Oz is sitting beside me and keep putting his toy in my lap. Casper is laying in his favorite place the hallway. Both of them have excellent personalities. These dogs have great tempers and are good with people.
Standard Poodles where bread for hunting and they need a lot of exercise. We have a blacktop bike trail at the end of our street that goes 8 miles one way and 30 miles the other direction. So they get a lot of exercise there. We have trailers on our bikes. When they start to slow down we stop and they get in the trailers. Off we go until they start to wine.
Dogs can read our body language and emotions and I swear they can tell when you are sad or not feeling good. When I'm sad they come and put their head on my lap and look at me with those eyes! When I'm happy.
If you don't mind a dog that might out smart you every now and then, you should have a Standard Poodle in your family.
